Book Fair, Heat Game, & Turkey Legs

Thursday, November 20, 2008

My first weekend in my new car was a blast(It's been a while, I got a 2005 White Dodge Neon). I was able to go the Miami Heat Game, The 25th Annual Miami Book Fair International, and hang out with friends. First of all, this was the first Heat game I went to where we actually won the game. It was exciting to see people quadruople times my age get more excited than me. "Let's Go Heat..Let's Go Heat...Let's Go Eat". The food at the American Airline was madd expensive. I've never paid more than five bucks for a hot dog! But hey, at least I got the hook up for my tickets(good looking out Amp). So why was I at a heat game you ask? Am I a die hard heat fan? Well, if you must know. I was celebrating...not for myself but for someone else. To me, birthdays are special and people should be treated special on their birthday (especially if they're a little "special"). I'm not a die hard heat fan...for me when it comes to sports, I'm just about the hype when I'm there. So I was pretty hyped up to see Dwayne Wade, and Michaeeeeeeeel Beeeaaasley running up and down the court with their finnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeee selves. Too bad Beasley is only 19!!!!! (yes I'm fanning myself...Jesus help me) Anyway, "Let's go Heat...Let's go Heat".

Saturday was the hottest day ever. Trust me I was out in the sun all day volunteering at the 25th Annual Miami Book Fair International. I think the last time I attended the book fair, I was eight years old. This year, I had a lot of fun. I met some really interesting people. One of the authors' who was exhibiting her book gave me a free copy. I can't wait to read it. The cover had a little wide eyed girl looking at herself in the mirror dreading what she was to become. It looks funny. I'll let you all know how the book turns out. I also saw some of my fellow South Florida poets there, Underscore of the Maroons and Eli. Now I know you are all wonderding why I have turkey legs in my heading, well let me tell you about the mouth watering, nose tingling, fight a fat boy for his cheetos, finger-licking gooooooooooooood, entrees the vendors had at the fair. I'm telling you, I must of gained 15 pounds from all the food I ate on Saturday. I had Arepas, tamales, meat on a stick, fries, an extra stuffed gyro pita, and of course the biggest turkey leg ever! I was in heaven. For most of you who know me, ya'll know that food is the key to my heart! But with all the walking up and down the street fair I know I must of burned all the calories.

I'm definetely looking forward to participating on a bigger scale next year. Maybe even have my own exhibitor booth.
Well that was it for my good eat, good read, and good "HEAT" weekend. Stay tuned for more on Coffee Break with Maeva The Artist.

Support independent publishing: buy this book on Lulu.

It's been a long time coming, but I finally published my very first poetry book. I'm quite excited about it because it's basically a retrospect of my journey through life and faith. I really hope that people are touched and inspired to go out and pursue their dreams after reading my book.

It's currently available for purchase through my publisher's site www.lulu.com and soon it will be available on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, and other major online book retailers.

Portion of the proceeds will benefit youth programs and Haitian Relief Efforts. I would truly appreciate your support in making a change in today's world.
